Empowering BIPOC Deaf Hoosiers through Advocacy
WELCOME
Hoosier Black Deaf Advocates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to serving members of the Deaf community. Our organization promotes leadership development, social equality, economic and educational opportunities, and cultural awareness. We advocate for civil rights and ensure equal access to education, employment, and social services.
Here, you will find resources that help raise Deaf awareness and promote social inclusion for the general population, including those who are not Deaf. Our efforts extend not only within Indiana but also across the United States.
Dr. Kaye Claytor delivered valuable educational insights on various aspects of health awareness, aimed at empowering members to take a proactive approach to self-care.
Jay Isch provided us with valuable insights on how to become effective advocates within our community.
Brady Ripperger provided valuable insights regarding our rights under Fair Housing laws, which encompass renting apartments, houses, and home purchases. Should you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana for assistance.
Black Lives Matter Facebook Live:
The live sessions panel addresses the racial injustice faced by Black and Brown individuals, particularly Deaf individuals, across the U.S. The injustices experienced by these communities are discussed in all three sessions, moderated by Dr. Laurene Simms. You can find all three sessions on YouTube.
Zaida Maldonado-Prather, senior attorney, provided valuable insights regarding our rights under employment laws. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Indiana Disability Rights.
