The mission of the Hoosier BDA is to minimize racism and audism barriers. Hoosier BDA aims to empower its members through advocacy and education while exercising their rights as Deaf individuals and as people of color throughout the State of Indiana.
The Hoosier BDA's vision is to create a safe environment that fosters freedom from mental and physical despair. Our goal is to protect the rights of Deaf BIPOC individuals by addressing the social, economic, educational, and political issues that impact the Indiana Deaf BIPOC. We aim to create opportunities for cultural enrichment and establish mentoring programs for the younger generation and American Sign Language interpreters.
Formerly known as the Indiana Chapter of Black Deaf Advocates (ICBDA), we proudly contributed to the community by distributing free items at the Indiana Deaf Children Foundation (IDCF) Holiday Bazaar, held at the Indiana School for the Deaf. We participated in projects that highlighted our mission and the valuable resources we provide to the Indiana Deaf community. It was a pleasure to welcome numerous visitors to our booth, making for an enjoyable day overall.
Additionally, we hosted a door prize giveaway that included one $50 gift card to His Place Eatery (donated by His Place Eatery) and three $20 gift cards to Kountry Kitchen (donated by ICBDA). As we approach the end of 2024, we will celebrate the new year under our new name, Hoosier Black Deaf Advocates, Inc. Be sure to visit the Hoosier BDA Facebook page to see the names of the winners!
